Ron, was my first boss / manager in Abu Dhabi in 1977. Enid and he settled me into the Standard Chartered family, for which I give heartfelt thanks - SCB became a major part of my life. He was a very fair and kind boss and one who became a friend. I saw him last at a Chartered Bank reunion at Fittleworth a few years back and although many years had passed since 1977, he was still the same old Ron. I will always think of him when-ever Standard Chartered is mentioned.
My most memorable recollection of Ron in Abu Dhabi was when I and a colleague were conducting a cash count in the vault for which we had a small discrepancy against the ledger. The vault also contained the Manager's wine stock which actually took-up more space than the cash and securities. Ron came into the vault and so my colleague and I fully expected a reprimand for the difference in cash. Whilst he did tell us to sort the cash difference, he was more concerned that his wine stock was in accord with the wine ledger which of course was meticulously kept.
I shall miss Ron and my thoughts are of course with Enid who also made sure we bachelors (newly sent overseas) were always made to feel at-home at their home.
